Star Materials in the Field of Architectural Decoration

Jun 25, 2025

As a "star material" in the field of building decoration, wood-plastic composite panels are widely used in outdoor floors, garden landscapes, interior decoration and outdoor decoration due to their waterproof and moisture-proof, weather-resistant and low-maintenance, weather-resistant and decorative advantages.
The raw materials of wood-plastic panels are mainly plant fibers and plastic matrix, supplemented by functional additives, which not only ensure the decorativeness of the original color of wood, but also ensure the stability of woodinfo-1100-735

1.High-value use of agricultural and forestry waste

Plant fiber is the "skeleton" of wood-plastic panels, accounting for more than 50%, and the main sources include:

Wood fiber: sawdust, wood powder, bamboo chips;
Non-wood fiber: rice husk, straw, palm fiber.
These fibers need to be crushed and dried for pretreatment to avoid interface debonding due to moisture when combined with plastic matrix.
WPC uses waste such as wood powder, rice husk, straw and plastic matrix such as polyethylene and polypropylene as core raw materials, and is compounded through advanced co-blending extrusion technology to recycle waste materials and alleviate the problems of excessive consumption of traditional wood and plastic pollution control.

In terms of physical properties, WPC combines the ease of processing of wood with the weather resistance of plastic - the processing characteristics of being sawable, nailable, and planable ensure the convenience of construction;
In terms of technology, WPC's corrosion resistance and termite resistance can remain stable in specific humid and high-salt environments;

2. Impact of the production process on the environment and industry response

•  Main environmental risks at the production end

Dust pollution: The crushing and drying process of plant fibers is prone to produce wood powder/straw dust, which can cause respiratory damage if inhaled for a long time;

Emissions: Plastic melting and additive decomposition release a small amount of volatile organic compounds such as olefins and benzene series;

Energy consumption and solid waste: Fiber heating, drying and extrusion molding; scraps are difficult to degrade in traditional landfills because they contain fiber and plastic mixture.

•  Industry environmental protection technology upgrade

Clean raw material substitution: In 2025, the industry will promote the "full recycling" formula - 100% of plant fibers come from agricultural and forestry waste, and more than 90% of plastic matrix is recycled materials;

Low emission process:

What are the advantages compared with traditional materials?

Carbon reduction benefits: 1 ton of wood-plastic board can replace 2-3 cubic meters of wood to reduce deforestation, and consume 1 ton of recycled plastic to reduce oil consumption by about 3 tons;

Low maintenance cost: No need for paint or anti-corrosion treatment, reduce the use of solvent-based coatings, and traditional wood needs to be painted every 2 years, which undoubtedly increases labor and maintenance costs.
